Post reminders of 'old Singapore' (pre massive FT influx)

Post by offshoreoildude » Fri, 24 Aug 2012 3:57 pm

The Vicom inspection centre in Sing Ming - I was there today - transported to the 80's when I first moved here.

Parts of the Seletar airport - rapidly disappearing - specifically the old RSFC building. Have you ever looked at the 'honor board' in there? True history.

Portsdown Road area - the old B and W's - disppearing with every expansion of the Biopolis.

I really miss the old Singapore and I totally get why the locals are pissed off with the MIW for changing it too quickly and too much,

Regarding Seletar, Yeah, I know. Sad. But they haven't torn, down or converted into offices, my old abode there in the camp. I lived in black & whites there from '83 to '99. When through there a couple of weeks ago and didn't hardly recognize the place and almost got lost what with all the new roads there.

This seems like an ideal thread for one of Lynx's "grandpa" comments.

Hell I miss the Singapore of the early/mid 90's. Lots of interesting nooks and crannies that a lot of people didn't really know about - the old Mitre Hotel, the cranky old guy who used to run a video rental shop in Tanglin Mall (woe betide the pool fool who neglected to rewind the tape before returning it to the shop), the CD shop in Marina Sq that used to sell a sh!tload of bootleg CDs, the indie music shop in Funan, Papa Joes... ahem, okay enough...

I remember that! :p That's about it though, and it was only while visiting.
