Dentist - Wisdom teeth hell

Post by scottmac1111 » Sun, 12 Dec 2004 5:00 pm

I am new in town and desperately need to know of a good dentist to remove my wisdom teeth. In agony. Please help.

Peter Yu in Holland Village is a favourite amongst expats on various forums. He took out my husband's very awkward wisdom teeth, did a great job. He has a lovely, gentle manner and explains everything in great detail - actually too much detail for a wimp like myself. :o

Wisdom teeth

Dear Seasider

Thanks for that. How long did it take; was it local or general anaesthetic? At the surgery or in hospital? How long did it take for him to recover? And how much did it cost? Sorry for the questions, but really need any insight you can offer.

Handing over to Mr Seasider:

It took somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes. It was a local anaesthetic, with some tablets prior to the injections to relax me, so hardly any pain, even when they injected into the roof of my mouth.

This was done at the surgery itself in Holland Village. I thought I was fine afterwards, but apparently I was a little spaced (a little? he floated back down the road - seasider). On a more general level, I think it took me about 2 days to get over it, roughly. Was given plenty of pain killers, but didn't use all of them.

The Dentist made a big point of ensuring that I used a hot compress (provided) for the 1st hour to minimize bruising, and that definitely worked well. Also alternated it hot and cold after that. One of my teeth had 3 or 4 roots which were quite twisted, and it felt like he had to stand on my chest to get a good grip to pull it out. (He didn't actually stand on my chest, I promise.)

Cost was S$680.

Dear Seasiders

Thank you for that comprehensive answer! So hopefully, I will be able to partake in Christmas frivolity...

Finally, do you have a number for him?

Thanks again
