Looking for decent bike for less than $400

I've been looking around for a decent bike with the following criteria:
- Under $400
- mud flaps
- 6 speeds or more

I've seen the Rodalink shop over at One Commonwealth and it's pretty much a boutique shop with most of the bikes going for $1,000 or more, way out of my range. I've seen the bikes over at Carrefour but I haven't been to Giant yet.

I'm looking for something in between a granny bike and an expensive road bike, not too fancy but something that will last a few years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
