I am moving to Sg in a couple of months time, and I want to bring my race bicycle with me.
If I bring it on the airline (emirates) they are going to charge me about £300. I think I can ship it there cheaper then that, but does that mean I am going to have to pay GST on it? It is about a year old, cost about SGD2k.
Secondly, as I do not yet have a job lined up, do I just enter on a tourist visa? And does this in any way affect the GST payable?
Thanks.
You will enter on a tourist visa. What country are you from (passport)? You may need to apply for a visa.
Your bicycle, since it is more than one year old, is not subject to GST. Whomever you select as a shipper should be able to provide you with a blank pro forma invoice for a value declaration... not the new price... its current value, and a form that you will fill out to indicate that this is previously owned personal
property.
BTW, where are you planning to ship the bike (local address, that is)?
