It is called IPA or phonetics but that's not important :P

Thanks for clarifying. Just wanna make sure that I don't commit more faux pas than I can afford when I communicate with Westerners

But here in Singapore IPA means the continuing of your existence here. In Principle Approval!

Good point, although Brewerkz have a passable IPA of the drinkable kind, which I might well imbibe at some point over the coming weekend.

Since I've managed to completely derail this topic anyway, I'll share my favourite Aussie 'different meanings' story. Back in the UK many moons ago, an Australian colleague invited my wife and I to a BBQ at his place. Stressing that it would be a very casual affair, he said something like "you can just come in thongs." From the expression on my face, he realised that I thought he was inviting me to some kind of wife-swapping event, so he quickly explained that he was actually referring to what we Brits would call 'flip flops'.

Yes, as the old song goes, you may say To-may-to, and I may say To-mah-to, but... I'd like to make it categorically clear that no-one actually says Pot-ah-to.

Let's call the whole thing off. Lovely song.

What did I do to deserve this? I am very offenced! I demand that the moderators take action!!

I expect you'll be calling my wife a spicy SPG taco next. I cannot believe you get away with this kind of language.

This board is not the same as it used to be, that's why I only come out once every few months to have a moan about others' lack of positive contribution [contd on page 94]....
