Advices Needed For Singaporean Guy + Malaysian Girl=Pls Help

Post by Vinby » Tue, 24 Jul 2012 10:21 pm

Hi all,

Im a male Singaporean currently in a relationship with my gf from msia.
She has been granted the Approval of marrying singaporean from MOM couple of weeks ago.
We are planning to ROM January 2013 and having confusions on how to go about with applying passes for her. :???:

Our profile is as followings:
Myself
Nationality: Singaporean
Race: Chinese
Age: 30
Occupation: HR Executive (I was previously an mechanical engineer and recently switched field)
Earning: 2.6k
Qualifications: Double Major Degree

My gf
Nationality: Malaysian (Holding Work Permit going to be renewed in September 2012)
Race: Chinese
Age: 22
Occupation: Payroll Officer
Earning: 1.65k
Qualification: STPM (equivalent to A-level) & currently on her way to complete a Diploma in HRM&Business from Singapore Human Resource Institute in March 2013
Working Exp in Singapore: since Dec 2010 (About 1yrs and 7months)

My questions are after we ROM-ed in January 2013,
1. Is she allowed to continue to work here with her existing Work Permit after ROM?

2. If she is going to change job after her completion of Diploma, her WP will be cancelled and once her WP is being cancelled, is she allowed to stay here until she gets a new job? Should i apply/when to apply a LTVP for her to stay here and find new job? (i heard that foreigner with LTVP is not allowed to hold a work pass here, but im not sure a spouse-sponsored foreigner can work with a LTVP without waiting a year of holding a LTVP)

3. If she get a new job with a S pass says in May 2013, is there any chances that I can sponsor her for PR application and how likely she will be granted a PR? Or can i go ahead to sponsor her PR application with her WP on?

I've just discovered this great 'LIVE' forum and been reading and surfing around and i found that there are lots of friendly and helpful kind souls providing lots of advices to many people's problems.
Appreciate all your advices greatly as I really want to keep my gf with me and live with me here.

With Regards,
Vin

You can try.

And if you are patient enough to wait, she can try for LTVP+ which allows her to work.

Congratulations!

You may refer to this thread which has this topic discussed in detail. It is a very long thread, mainly because it started since 2005 but by all means the information still stands. You can scroll to the last page for more recent discussions.

Hi the lynx,

Thank u so much for all the useful threads and advises you given.
Im reading half way of them, and i hv a few quick questions here,

1. Is my gf allowed to renew her WP/apply new S pass after we ROM-ed?

2. Can she change job and apply for new pass just like she is a foreigner without me sponsoring her the LTVP?

3. Is there any rules/laws state that a singaporean spouse cannot work on work passes without LTVP+?

If she can renew wp/ change job and apply new pass as she wants then it wouldn't be a big issue to us. So that we can do a better long-term planning.

Many thanks and best regards,
Vin

Yes. She will be treated like a normal foreign employee. So the application or renewal procedures are the same, until she gets LTVP or PR of course. Of course I have to let you know that it is no guarantee that her application/renewal will be approved indefinitely.

2. Can she change job and apply for new pass just like she is a foreigner without me sponsoring her the LTVP?

Same as above answer. But she has to quit her job after you apply for her LTVP because LTVP holders cannot work.

3. Is there any rules/laws state that a singaporean spouse cannot work on work passes without LTVP+?

Yes. LTVP is different from LTVP+. You can google ICA's website. It has been explained explicitly.

Since she is a Malaysian, you don't have to worry about her, if let's say, her renewal or new pass application is rejected. Malaysia is close enough  I think she has better hopes in earning her own PR through Family Ties Scheme after married to you for many years, with a baby to boot (better, a male).

Many thanks and best regards,
Vin

I will throw some spanners into the work where there had been cases since I worked with these agencies in the 80s. There were some that had to wait for more than 5 years to get their PR approves. Hence the spouse had only LTSVP which basically barely enough to meet their household budget even though they had three(boys) children of their own. To top it off , spouse was a Malaysian
Till today I cannot figure the reason of rejections.
Please do remember Immigration Policies among all other policies in Singapore agencies/ministries were never carved out of stone. It was melting ice with no shape or form. Hence as a general rule of thumb , you should be OK but if the officer got up on the wrong side of bed on that day then you are screwed for life
