Croatia, Sweden, Brazil, Hong Kong..Singapore our last Stop?

Post by dose83 » Tue, 24 Jul 2012 3:57 am

We're planing move to Singapore. I had been reading regarding the EP, PR and Long Term Social Visit Visa a little bit. And now I would like to get some personal insights to have a better idea.

I'm married. My wife has a Bachelor and is soon applying for a Master (by distance). She works as an Language Teacher and at the Student Office Department for over 3 years.

I'm an electrician, works with ACDC, fire alarm installation, electric regulation and network systems for over 5 years. I recently got in at the University to finally gain my Bachelor degree (by distance). We both speak and write fluently four languages.

My wife lived in HK, however due to the climate and pollution, she had no other option but move. Our plan still to settle down in Asia, build a family and etc.

However, we wonder how does it work to get a job and an EP visa? Is it possible to rent an apartment for a resonable price, without agent fees? I'm learnt that Orchid borough seems to be very pleasent and only 30 min by bus to the center. I'm also learnt that, there are many people living in Malaysia and working in Singapore. How possible this can be? The same towards health care and child care. How does it works?

We'll be extremely grateful for an insight. In case you wonder anything regarding rellocation in Sweden, Brazil or Croatia. We'll be glad to answer you.

Forgive me, if I sound a bit desesparated. But since we're already travelling to Singapore this year. Any suggestion are more than welcome!

Wishing all an astonishing day/week!

What is your nationality? And your wife's? (I assume she is a HKer from your post) It may play a factor for the visa/pass approval in your next question.

Those who do that are Malaysians themselves, which makes a lot of things easier because they only have to worry about work pass in Singapore. If you are neither a Singaporean or Malaysian and you intend to live in Malaysia and work in Singapore, you need to jump through hoops to get a residential pass in Malaysia and then a work pass in Singapore. And usually these people live in JB, close to the border so that it will make travelling easy.

The same towards health care and child care. How does it works?

Is English one of them?

Man, why don't you just do a bit of the search first and only later ask some questions?

http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/search.php

There are tons of recent threads clearly showing how difficult is to get a foot in at the moment and two times as much covering the costs of living.

In short:
- distant degrees - bad thing
- costs of renting - very high
- chances of getting EP - probably very slim.

What is your nationality?

Lynx, I admire your self restraint. I always blurt things out, sometimes with 'hilarious' (or not) consequences.
