In my 30 years in Asia, I've seen it happen all too often. Statistically, east-west marriages rarely last more than two years. However, once past around 6 or 7 years, they normally will go the distance. But normally, once the eastern bride fleeces the western rube, they move on. Hopefully with a green card as well. but as long as it's at least long green it will be okay. Almost everybody I've ever met who set up a business in the brides country with the family running it has lost his shirt and everything else as well.

There are derelicts and flotsam/jetsum all over Asia, just looking for their next drink when they blodge enough for a pint off a hapless tourist.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers

This is exactly what I mean, in better words!
Normally they are rare in Singapore (High cost of beer and cigarettes? Or maybe the rule of law and impossibility of visa runs and informal jobs?), so I wonder how the OP ended up here.
I hope he will come back and explain!

Yeah, but the Philippines has a wider spectrum. From dirt-cheap to "AWR MAYR GERD; AMAY IN SINGAPURRRRR"
"A quokka is what would happen if there was an anime about kangaroos."
