US boarding school student NS bureaucratic hellhole

Post by hli » Thu, 19 Jul 2012 2:37 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm a student (Singaporean citizen) at a boarding school in the U.S. I'm going to be graduating in june 2013 and would love to start NS right afterwards so I can go to university in 2 years time.

I've been calling CMPB and NS and nobody will tell me how how the enlistment process works. What do I do?

I'd really rather not waste a whole year between college and NS.

Please help!

Believe it or not, I've looked there. I've also called NS and CMPB. Nobody will tell me what I'm supposed to do. Am I supposed to get my medical checkup without getting that letter first?

Perhaps there is a forum for Singapore citizens you might check with. This is an expat board. Or have your parents find out for you.

First of all, it is not a hell hole
There are two ways you can get hold them on different website. One is www.ns.sg and www.cmpb.gov.sg
e-mail both of them with your Exit Permit number, IC or Passport number.
The turn around for e-mail reply is max 72 hrs
I just call them on Friday and I managed to get thru both cpc, cmpb and ns enlistees registration w/o any issues and I am paying the low cost IDD number which usually does not allow me to get thru on the first time
They will reply to you when you need to go for medical check up and inform you on the next available intake, It usually coincide with the JCs and A level cohort or the Polys cohort of SG school leavers
My best advise get the intake closest and do the medical check up nearing to that date hence your lull period between the intake and your medical check up is minimal.
Everyone has gone thru this with minimum fuss and you are not that any different.
OK ?
