I may sound naive or idealist but general kindness and manners is not something you can bargain or barter on, it is an obligation, no matter what.
Its funny, not only locals being general DBs but even expats following in their shoes. Held a door open for a fellow australian and not so much as a thanks was muttered. Infact i had the feeling i was being looked down on (maybe cos i look local?!).

these days, i find that the locals set the benchmark for being DB. majority of the expats just follow in their footsteps after awhile.
