Blocked nose for 3 months - Advice?
Hi all,
My wife had been suffering from a blocked leftside of her nose for 3 months and its been causing her distress in breathing and sleeping. We have consulted a specialist in TTSH, who did a scope and gave some antibiotics for inflamation. Also, he remarked that the inside of the nose is raw from all the sneezing and that is the result of the bleeding. SOmehow, i don't quite trust him and would like to ask if anybody ever experienced such serious blocked nose? Any specialist to recommend? it had never happened this serious and had always been the typical flu that doesn't last more than 3 days. Please advise....

better go to a hospital and look for an ENT (ear nose throat) specialist..
you can try in Novena Medical Center, there's an ENT specialist.

Hi,
What doctor are you seeing in TTSH? I do know some doctors there. However, if you think that the doctor is not so good for you, there are plenty of ENTs to go around. However, ENT doctors also do have their sub-specialty, in terms of Neck tumors, Nose allergies, sleep apnea... its important that you find the appropriate sub-speicalist in order for the problem to go away.
I do have some patients whom after seeing the ENT and was advised that the structure of the nose is in-born i.e. the nose itself is senstive. the only way to cure it will be through surgical matters. However, better to see a doctor to know.

Looks like yr wife needs surgery. I suffered from serious nose blockage a few months ago and could not sleep well for nights. After visiting dr goh, an ent doc in mt Elizabeth, I found out that I had swollen turbinates in my nose due to food allergy. Done a simple operation which only lasted 15 min plus 4 weeks of recovery, I'm good as new.

I am not sure if this will help as I use them for my sinus problem. More so during the haze and I must say it works so far for me. The product is Nasal Screens which I bought from Amazon. Seem like they have some distributing people here now in Singapore as advised by US friends. www.cypresspure.com

it seems that you did not get an answer you'd like from the dr at ttsh. did you ask him/her the right questions?SittingBull wrote:My wife had been suffering from a blocked leftside of her nose for 3 months and its been causing her distress in breathing and sleeping.

you can finish the course of meds, and follow up. or you can seek another doctor.
it's difficult to say what types of doctors you'll need, as you don't know the cause. further, your mileage may vary with any doctor you visit...
i'm unclear if your wife's suffering from a blocked nose or sneezing or both. i think she may be clearing her nose very regularly... that does not help! (may make her sneeze) does she also have other symptoms? you may want to consider have her checked for allergies since a scope was done and there was no mention of any unusual growth. were her ears checked too?
did you guys move recently? or buy some new furniture/linen for the house? has her diet changed?
allergies can manifest in many forms and at any time. has she tried any (strong non-OTC) anti-histamines or decongestants? those usually work...
Did the doctor do an allergy test with your wife? Is her nose always blocked, even when you go on vacation? Whenever I stay in an older place my nose is always blocked at night because I am allergic to dust. It even goes so far that my right ear gets blocked because there is no proper circulation of air because the nose is also blocked. I would def recommed to get a second opinion on that and go see a dermatologist who will run an allergy test with your wife.
