Re: Considering Singapore - How is the Social life and datin

steve99 wrote:Greetings all,

I am currently looking into a career opportunity in Singapore, and have been researching the expat lifestyle.

One thing I was unsure of was the social life and dating scene for a single guy in early 40's. Just wondering how it would compare with Sydney?
Are locals open to dating Westerners or would I be 'restricted' to fellow expat women?

Would appreciate it if anyone could share their thoughts or experiences on this topic.

Thanks in advance, Steve.
Welcome Steve...the dating scene actually includes not just "true blue" Singaporean females nowadays, but a whole raft of Permanent Residents including many of the most attractive office working professionals from PRC, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. From the attributes of the women to the ways of finding one to love, there's a journey shall we say.

Enjoy the project, as a great long-term girlfriend makes Singapore far more tolerable if you're here for a year or two...

Quite often, guys 40+ who are employed in SG have a property in the West.

Although this sounds a little jokey it isn't: an Asian female lover who is a little less conventional looking is far less likely to be pestered in the West if you're a CEO spending time in Frankfurt or Cologne for the European summer.

In terms of local mainstream women in Singapore I know of none who will care about baldness or a paunch.

Baldness is often genetic and/or due to serious thinking in a high-level position in the workplace, and a paunch is due to being stuck at a desk making high-level decisions, or socialising and drinking adequate amounts of wine.

As long as a man is generous, humorous, interesting and athletic in terms of bedroom activity, looks rarely matter to the neighbourhood or plush district female of Singapore.

Warning though: Remove all nasal hair and hair from the neck and back.

Is this truly what you believe, or are you just voicing what Singaporean women use to rationalize dating rich old men for their money?

Voicing...I'll be man enough to admit it... They are - or can be especially in SG and HK - very very naughty ladies.

Marry the man with abundant wealth (CEO to surgeon), and then bag off with Mr Athletic, Mr Hair or Mr Charisma. Been there as the naughty boy...

Took some interrogating because they mostly pretend they're 100% single...

Some HK women treat SG as the Ibiza of the East, a place to go for a little holiday by themselves... Hmmm...

Is this stuff being turned out by a 'Love-Doctor facts generator' or something? Because it is getting very close to being good parody.

Guys...I work for a Dutch online firm and there are far too many office snacks, competing pressures, and events involving gorging in the Intercontinental or entertaining the area manager until 4am+. So we've all got paunches and/or Phil Collins hairdos.

BUT I will admit that your typical banker living in The Sail may have full head of hair, glockenspiel ribs, and so on.

Different ways of slicing up expat attributes...all the best...

I'm not buying that one, no-one's dating an ugly woman just so she won't get pestered by others on a 2 week holiday once a year. Most (normal) guys are thinking about the other 50 weeks a year with a nice piece of tail

I have my own theories on why a larger proportion of slightly older guys end up with younger mingers, but I'll keep them to myself in case I offend any of the old boys here

When you get old style, fashion and what people think all goes out the window at that ripe old age you have done it all read the book and got the T shirt, now it's all about comfort, be it a chair, elasticated trogs, or velcro shoes. If the minger is comfortable, cheap, and does the job with the least amount of fuss then it's a keeper. Recently I tried getting out of a Lamborghini and nearly gave my self a hernia, bugger that for a bag of peanuts, give me my trusty Toyota and I am happy as an old clam.

I know what you mean, but here's the thing I don't understand. The majority of women that I see like this are usually still fairly young, so they're probably still the types who want to go out partying etc... If the women were older I'd completely understand it, as people of similar ages have things in common and can generally be 'comfortable' together. But what's the point of getting a 26 year old which comes will all the hassles of dating a 26 year old but without any of the benefits (the looks)? I doubt it's for the sparking conversation (not exactly a strong point of the local population). I can only assume the guy thinks the woman is attractive because she's young and doesn't really know the difference between an attractive Asian women and a not-so-attractive one.

The yellow fever can make you blind, lol the problem is that once you been out here long enough you can distinguish Asian mingers, but if you straight off the boat from Europe then if they have long black hair, short, and brown that's good enough, it works both ways you often see Asian men with real western mingers, same story so long as she has blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin they get all weak at the knees. Even though they are real chavets from some sink estate.
