The financial services in Singapore are killing me!

Post by kennyfaqheur » Tue, 10 Jul 2012 7:02 pm

Hi mates.

I’m pretty new in town and having a wee bit of trouble getting information from the banks here. The wife and I need a few basic banking services for our kids but the thing is getting any form of face-to-face service at any bank branch here means reading those mindless pamphlets and/or standing in line for an hour. Any suggestions on how I can get a lil’ help at the branches without feeling suicidal? :x

Cheers,

Kenny

Tell them you're interested to open a bank account and would like to find out more information. You will be ushered to an officer almost immediately. Then ask all the questions you want.

Why do I recommend this move?

It is because from my experiences of attempting to open an actual bank account, the officers will spend 2 hours trying to cramp my head with unnecessary information while trying to push for other higher-earning products.

So I guess the reverse must be possible then.

Try a bank like OCBC or Citibank, or anyone except POSB/DBS. At those banks, you have "officers" (sales people) who will sit you down immediately and walk you through the process. At POSB/DBS, you'll wait in a long queue to get a number. You'll wait a while for your number to be called, they'll re-ask you the same questions, take slightly more information, and then stand you in a third queue.

Queuing-wise Citibank is quite OK. Short waiting time in their branches and no queues in front of the ATMs. Also phone support can be reached within 2 minutes.
