Number of work hours

Post by crescia » Thu, 05 Jul 2012 11:45 am

I browsed MOM's website and there I found out that the maximum work hours per day is 8 hours and 44 hours per week. I have read also all the other considerations written there.

What was stated in my contract that my number of work hours is 9 hours per day based on a six-day work week. Actually, the break time was not written but supposed to be not less than 45 minutes according to MOM. Yes, when it comes to break, we do have but will always tell us to eat faster. Sometimes, I just limit my break time to 30 minutes 'cos I didn't know.

What will I do? Will I tell MOM about this? Thanks

I don't know. Will you?

Are you local or foreign on a WP/EP/S pass? If local, the choice is yours. If Foreign, the choice is also yours, but you will probably find yourself without a job pretty quick. It would be interesting to see if you get overtime or not. You might have built in O/T. Without seeing your appointment letter that's the best I can do.

We're not given an overtime pay.

In MOM's website, maximum hours is 44 per week. In my contract, 9 hours per day on a 6-day work means 54 hours. And considering the break 1 hour per day (which is not the case) for 6 days would total to 48 hours per week. So it's still more than what is required by MOM.

By the way, I'm a foreigner. My concern also is I will counter fight them because in the contract either I resign or they'll terminate me, I will still pay the monetary compensation.

I also read in MOM's website that the contract is null and void if it is less favorable than the Employment Act.

Your case has been discussed in the other thread you have created. You may refer there: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic ... highlight=
