Singapore girl plans to marry Malaysian Boy

Post by xueqi04 » Tue, 03 Jul 2012 9:56 pm

Hi All,

Really need some help on this.

I know this is challenging. Have been together with my Malaysian boyfriend for 2 years. He is currently working in a Japan company as lab technologist. Not a very high pay, monthly income 2k with ot, 1.4 if none.

I am studying for degree, current pay is 2.3k.

Would like to know the chances of us getting married.

I plan to call the registry of marriages to ask but i would like to seek fellow help. Hope you guys can help.

We are 24 now but marriage will be planning around 5-6 years later..

Is he on Work Permit? If he is, you need MOM's permission before you can even register for ROM.

And you plan for 5 to 6 years later? What's the rush? Many things can happen in that period of time.

Alright, you are asking too broadly. What sort of advice are you really looking for? Because, really, you didn't mention anything specific.

Challenges in immigration issue? Challenges in finance? Challenges in related governmental agencies like HDB, MOM, CPF etc? Or just challenges in love over the fact that both of you are brought up in different background?

I want to know if its possible to get married in singapore.

and also about purchasing of flats, whether it is possible.

I heard from my friend that malaysian females get better chances that malaysian males. Not sure if it is true.

Thanks for helping :)

Of course it is, silly girl. :P The only obstacle is if your boyfriend is a Work Permit holder because they need permission from MOM to get married to Singaporean citizens or PRs. You still haven't answer my question on this part yet.

and also about purchasing of flats, whether it is possible.

Only if he is a PR and joined in with you in HDB purchase. In your case, SC+PR, it can be BTO HDB flats, not just resale HDB flats (so more options). But I need other forum regulars to confirm this as I'm not very sure about this part.

Better chance in what?

Thanks for helping :)

Heee, thanks! I was so worried and really thankful that you helped me to clarify :) He has been working in singapore for 5 years in the engineering industry, currently his company is giving him professional training courses to attend and i hope it will increase his chances for PR after he attains Spass if possible..

I know that Singaporean and PR can purchase BTO flats, it was stated in the website also. Just lower subsidy

For HDB,

New HDB, resale HDB with CPF grant.
Need to be
- both singaporean
- 1 Singaporean + 1 PR

Different house size has different salary cap for combine salary.

For resale HDB without CPF grant
Need to be
- both singaporean
- 1 Singaporean + 1 PR
- Both PR
- Singaporean + foreigner spouse (Under Non-Citizen Spouse Scheme)
- Single Singaporean above 35 yrs old

- No Salary cap

For detail, refer to this
http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10321p.nsf ... enDocument

If assume, TS boyfriend is non-WP holder and never had a WP before. They can marry and buy resale HDB without CPF grant under Non-Citizen Spouse Scheme.

However for the loan side, I'm not sure can they able to take HDB loan.

BTW, no point planing 5-6 yrs ahead for housing.
HDB rule might change.
