When I came in 2009 middle, the advice was wait for 1 yr, and then in 2010, they were already tightening, so the advice was wait for 2 years and after 2 years, the GE happened and it was like, no matter how long you are here for, if you aren't the type that they need, you ain't gonna get it. At the same time our baby daughter was arriving so wife had to go back to India and now 3 yrs later, I have applied, giving myself the best chance possible. :)
