Aussie Winter Wear - shopping tips needed!

Post by Miss Swan » Fri, 22 Jun 2012 9:25 am

I'm heading to Brisbane in 11 days. Temperatures are looking at low 10's and 20's. I was looking to pick up some winter wear but had a disappointment and fruitless shopping trip yesterday. Popped over to places like Uniqlo because the hoodies and sweaters look deliciously warm on the website but were threadbare thin when I got to the store and felt the actual fabric. I also dropped in at Winter Time but I am in no way getting fit-for-the-Alps jackets or paying >$100 for a granny looking cashmere sweater.

I don't think I'm being fussy or mingy. It'd be great if someone can point me to anywhere that sells sweaters or hoodies (without busting my purse) that I can bring over to Brissie. Just going to get a couple of each! I'll do more shopping when I'm there (good ol' Target!), as I can get cheaper for better.

P.S. I also know now is right in the middle of summer and it won't be easy finding nice winter clothing in stores.

Coldwear? Not exactly Target prices but not that expensive compared to other stores. They're above the middle, I think. At least, that's the impression I got when I was shopping around for gloves.

Have you tried looking at the stores over at Chinatown (People's Park Complex and People's Park Centre)?

Oh, the disappointment. Cold Wear's fleece jacket costs $99, which may sound alright for some but that's a great leap over my budget.

I was recommended Chinatown by a friend too but is there any particular shop to look out for? I haven't got much time left and despite being a female, I actually find going from store to store for an item an absolute nightmare and a headache. :P
