This is my first posting but I have been researching for quite some time so hope that I do this correctly. Moving to Singapore in next 8 weeks - husband has job in Alexandra area and we have got a spot for our 12 year old in the Australian School - on waitlist for 4 year old. Dilemna is that seems quite a distance between the two - I have checked the traveling times with google maps (no car) - should we try and look at other schools closer to husbands work? From most of the forums it seems to be the general consensus to live closer to the schools than work but that will mean quite a commute for husband - or are we just a bit spoilt here in Australia with a short commute time? I realize that there are wait lists for a lot of the schools so this may all be a moot point. The reason we originally chose the Australian School was the plan is to return to Aus in few years and thought it made the most sense to keep the kids in the same system. Thanks for your time and I hope someone has got some clarity for us.

Simple question. Who would be better able to take the long ride? I would think the adults would be, personally. The other thing to remember is you are not in Australia.

Sticking a pin on the map halfway between both areas I landed in Newton, which is meant to be nice. For a general rule of thumb I'd go for a long adult commute and a short-hop for children otherwise they'll be on the school bus in their pyjamas.

Hi Waricash.
There are school run bus services that your kids can use. We send our 2 (6 and 4 years old) on the bus. They get picked up and dropped off at our apartment block and there is a bus "Aunty" who looks after them for the ride.
Initially my wife was taking them to school on the train each day but after a couple of weeks 2 things happened:
1. The boys were begging to go on the bus to be with their friends
2. The 1.5 hour round trip twice a day was starting to wear on my wife.
We live fairly close to the school (Upper Thompson). The boys are picked up at about 7.45 and dropped back at about 3.45.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We are looking at the Novena/Newton area which I think seems to be the best middle ground.
