Job Prospects from Outside Singapore

Post by ScubaGal » Sat, 02 Jun 2012 5:08 am

My husband and I would very much like to relocate to Singapore, but he is currently having difficulty getting recruiters to respond to his resume submissions. He is in IT and has 15+ years of specialized experience, so his qualifications are not in question. He qualifies for a PEP, and we are about to start that process, so he is not looking for EP sponsorship. We are happy to pay for our own relocation expenses, so that again should not be an issue.
Our plan is to relocate to Singapore in the next 6 weeks and have him do the job hunting from there, but with little response from recruiters we are hesitant to make the jump. Is it common for job openings to only respond to local candidates even if there is no specification for Singaporean or PRs only? Your thoughts and expertise are greatly appreciated.

This is common, but it still is hard. The PEP will help immensely, as will being here with a local address and phone #.

Recruiters here are terrible. I would suggest targeting specific MNCs you know are here. (go to their whatever.com/careers or /jobs)

One little note you should be aware of. Just because you are qualified for a PEP, it is not a guarantee that you will receive on. The criteria is there just to qualify one to apply for, not necessarily to get, one. The income guidelines are only that, a guideline for who can make an application. But it does not guarantee that you will be issued one.

Good Luck. You shouldn't have any problem but it's wise to realize up front, that they do not have to give you one just because you earn a certain amount of money.

Sorry for my ignorance but is getting a PEP sometimes helped by the fact you earn a certain income in your citizen country?

What is the minimum for a UK expat
Off to pastures anew...or continue to enjoy Brit taxes and Brit rain?!!!!

Info from here:

http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/ ... fault.aspx

... as follows:

"Overseas foreign professional whose last drawn fixed monthly salary overseas was at least $8,000" That's SGD, which is approximately GBP 4k.
Be careful what you wish for
