They are so in need for culture that they cling to it, defend it, and confuse it with Singlish.

But you're right, this digression is a common one for this forum.
The last time Singlish was brought up, some people got so riled up and fought tooth, fang and claw.

Dude, just do a search for "Singlish" here.

U mean this lady (Eulenia Prudente)

She not just scold Singaporean lady.
She even mention Singaporean more pig than pinoy.

She not just scold Singaporean, she also scolded her own people :o
no she did not. i believe she is responding to some posts from some people who "may have said pinoys are pigs". she's retaliating to some of the posts which I believe maybe derogatory so I don't think she deserved the rude comments. in fairness to her, she sounds intelligent but she lost her temper in the later part.

Plus, you can notice the blogger wrote “The way you know you are more PIGS than the pinoys you are talking about,”

Shoot me for saying this, in Asian Context, Foreigners here get treated much better than many of the Asian countries ..

I am Including Malaysia, India, Indonesia in the list .. as well as more .. treatment of foreigners including telling foreigner to get lost, or act like they just don't exist .. or thinking the foreigner doesn't know the local dialect, curse the fellow in full French Words !!!

Well, in those countries where you are treated princely, you are treated so - so as to not offend you, but in the background all kinds of devillish plans are being hatched to sink you the deepest, or as my other half's country people say "we make foreigners disappear without a trace .. "

Including an incident where an American stepped on a natives patch, and the native chief fabricated evidence and deported the American, since, as per their law, foreigner's must be deported if they have allegations .. never mind innocent until proven otherwise says the law for locals.

It ain't that bad says me ..

Of course, you may beg to differ, since you are well versed in one of the most hospitable countries in the region ..

I think what ecureilix says is true, but at the same time - I also thing that Singapore is trying to present itself as a first-world country. Therein lies the paradox. So who should they be compared to, I don't know. I suppose a bit of both worlds.

The next few years here will be very telling. Either they will get through this current anti-foreigner phase intact and mature as a society - or, well, who knows.

Me, I'm making sure I have an exit plan in place just in case things get truly intolerable here. Right now it is just annoying, and understandable in many ways when you aren't annoyed by it. When I'm not pissed off at the attitude here, I also imagine I might feel the same way if my city had doubled in size in less than ten years, mostly through immigration, and everyone around me seemed to be doing a lot better than me - regardless of the reality.

zzm9980 wrote:Like most articles on that TemasekTimes blog, it is extremely inflammatory.

She doesn't call Singaporeans pigs, except the ones insulting her/her race. That is fair enough, since they 'started' it and the context of her insult is directly targeting those with specific ill thoughts. She does call Singaporeans lazy though. Well, I'll refrain from comment on that one :)

In other countries, foreigners are expected to respect locals and integrate with them.
Sure, but the locals don't berate and treat foreigners like utter pieces of crap nearly so much as they do in Singapore.
I wonder why TT allows rude comments in thier blog. Seriously, they need a moderator to clean those filthy comments. It seems like a word/warzone.

Funny how the article plays the race card. Normally the press mentions nationality - so they'd start off with something like "French national asks..." instead of making this a race-related issue just to stir up the pot...
