CNIS to enroll or not to enroll my children?

Post by consuelo_serrano » Fri, 25 May 2012 8:14 pm

Hello, we are a family from US relocating to Singapore in the summer. We are trying to decide what to do in regards to schools for our two children ages 7 and 4. They have been accepted at SAS but this is not exactly what we are looking for. We want them to learn as much mandarin as possible and to make the most of our time in Singapore in this regard. So CNIS on paper sounds like the perfect option but then after reading here and there negative comments we feel unable to take the risk of putting our children in this school. I would really apreciate if I could talk or share some messages with current parents is it really that bad of a school? unfortunately we will not be able to visit until August when we get there and SAS our back up plan will not wait til then for our final decission. The safe bet is SAS but CNIS offers the chinese which is a dream come true for us. What to do? any insights are very appreciated. With our best wishes Consu

Hope this reply isn't too late. My son was in CNIS for a year and a half, having moved from California. The chinese program had been extremely helpful for my son (from an almost 0 chinese background). The curriculum is okay, even though some teachers are extremely irresponsible. I heard that they have a new principle - who happened to be my son's home room teacher when he was there. She is one of the better teachers there and she had good ideas to improve the school. I think the school might improve under her hands.

If you have any queries I would recommend coming to visit the school as you will be able to see first hand how the school is run.
