need advice

Post by cobia6620 » Fri, 25 May 2012 2:23 am

Hi Group
I'm seriously thinking about a 3-5 year transfer to SEA and want to live in Singapore. I'm an American Sales Engineer working for a manufacturer of offshore cranes. I've traveled SEA for many years and Singapore is the only place I would locate my wife to. Question is cost of living. I'm 61 and wife is 57 and we're looking for a clean, comfortable, but not large and expensive place to live. Where is the best location where my wife can meet and interact with other expat wives? close to food and shopping? I'll be working outside Singapore most of the time so close to airport would be nice but not critical. we're not looking for anything fancy but comfortable. any idea on total montly expenses? rent, utilities, food, etc. we have no kids and no pets
thks to all

All your questions can be answered with the excellent search function at the upper right side of the page.

Most of Singapore can meet most of your criteria except proximity to Airport (understandable) and Expat wives (she may not want this, see some other threads). I'd suggest focusing your search on East Coast/Siglap areas. (District 15, western half of 16). It's close to the airport, the beach, and expats. But isn't all completely expats.

Prices are all over the place for all of Singapore, except the areas around Districts 9, 10, and 11. Those are all just through the roof.

With that focus area in mind, searching the forums should be easy.

I agree with the too many expat wives thing. When your wife makes a group of friends its nice to come home to your own space and relax. I have met two couples in our condo but thats enough for me. All my friends come from other activities I do and we meet up whenever.
As they say too many cooks spoil the broth, same with expat wives......LOL
