EP Expired before EP Renewal gets approved

Post by Cornhusker » Thu, 24 May 2012 9:47 am

Hi,

My EP has expired, however, the EP renewal application is still pending for over 2 weeks. I am wondering what should I do now?

1. Am I still legal to stay in Singapore? if not, what I need to do to stay in Singapore?
2. Am I still legal to work base on a pending EP application?

Really appreciated!

Did the renewal application get submitted before your EP expired?

Try calling MOM and ask for their advice since yours is still pending.

I tried email MOM the answer I got is that MOM only communicate with the employer.

And I contacted my employer too, not sure they can get anything more from MOM, they are thinking I may need to get a SVP for now.

But that's technically illegal for you to work on SVP, unless MOM themselves specifically suggest that to your employer in their communications.

You could get yourself in trouble.

I know when my EP Renewal Appeal was under process the MoM did say they could extend my stay, if required, until an outcome was reached one way or the other.

The guy on the phone tried to fob me off by saying they need to talk to my employer, until i said i was the employer.......as well!

Short of that, take a visit to MoM with your boss, the person signing the application, and get it sorted out directly.

I tried to call MOM just now, same thing, only talk to employer, but mentioned something like charge/penalty as my EP has already expired.

I am contacting my employer to let them deal with MOM.

An update, my employer contact MOM, and MOM asked them to provide a letter so I can take a letter there for 30 days extension while waiting for final approval of renewal application.

Got back from MOM, after showing the letter from my employer, they give me 2 weeks extension. stating as my EP has already expired, they can only give 2 week extension.

Anyway, hope my renewal application will be approved soon.

Bumping this thread as I got a new case: a friend of mine, with expired EP and in the middle of downgrading process to SPass, entered Singapore via Tuas. He prepared the white card, gave it to the ICA staff, but the staff asked for the expired EP, didn't take the white card, and didn't stamp his passport (he was too tired to check, and just realized it on the next day). His HR said that it would be better to wait for the SPass result.

Or should he contact ICA for this matter?
