Hi. Our house is getting packed tomorrow ready for the big move to Singapore. We are in Sydney and I would like to know how much wine can we put into our container before we get charged taxes etc. I was thinking 2 cases would be safe. Or do Customs allow 3 or 4 cases when relocating to Singapore?

Hello, I would put in enough and tell the shipper to declare. A bottle of cheap white wine is $30+ here. Same with red wine. Only thing is the unless you have a wine fridge or run your air con in the "wine room" the average temp is about 28C so the white will cook.
Saying this I wish we brought our wine with us as it takes you a long time to get over the shock of wine prices here. Good Luck.

You just need to know your wines and check out the main supermarkets regularly.
You can easily get a MUCH better wine than Jacob's Creek (which also costs a lot more compared to Jacob's when you look at prices outside Singapore) for under $20.

Love this forum. Thanks for your replies.
I guess the excise is fair.
The Singapore Customs website (
http://www.customs.gov.sg/leftNav/trad/ ... +Goods.htm) states "Wine of fresh grapes not over 15% alcoholic in containers of 2l or less". I guess I can bring in 4 cases of 750ml bottles as long as I have some where cool to store them. Is there a limit on the quantity brought in? I have friends asking for me to bring them wine.
Thank you.

One more thing:
Before I start taking more than I can consume (although I hear a there is a lot of wine time). My husband will be travel to and from Sydney quite regularly - he can also bring back case(s) of wine and will just need to pay the excise?
Thanks again.

I too have always wondered how this works, and how easy it would be to take out a case of duty-free wine from your handluggage upon arrival and paying the excise - is it a quick, pain-free procedure ("pay and go") or a major, time-consuming PITA?

If I were to do it. I'd buy a case at the bottle shop (better selection) and check it through. Then pay the duty on this on arrival in Singapore. Can this be done?

BEst check with your airline, each airline has different rules.
