Post by AjitS » Sat, 19 May 2012 6:10 pm

Hey all

Im 28M and im from the UK been here for just over a week.

Im trying to organise a group of people that are also new to singapore to go out with.. To start off with will be drinks but the plan is for people to make mates to just generally hang out with.

Ive already PM a few people and got a few responces (anyone thats already emailed me dont need to message me again)

What i would like to do is set up a distribution list and email you all with a plan of when we can hook up (if you have suggestions please include i your email)

If you are interested email me at [email protected]

Anyone and eeryone welcome (and you dont have to be a new comer either, experience is welcomed)

Regards
AJ

Why don't you just do yourself a favour and attend eithr the FNDC, WNDC, MBA. These are established social threads on this board and are quite popular with newbies to get their feet wet. The FNDC was actually partially responsible for at least one marriage as well!

Going to try and make the FNDC but wanted to organise something for saturday as we dont seem to have SNDC...

Also, although everyone welcome thought people would be more inclined to attend something that was specificaly for newbies. Ive got a few people interested and ill gauge what the consensus is and see if everyone wants to meet saturday or tag along on the FNDC.

Aren't we all Newbies with differing amounts of time on the little red dot?

What do you mean only for Newbies? You mean you'l organise it, everyone will go once and then never again (as they won't be new anymore)???

Nutnut - in answer to your quesion "aren't we all newbies"? Yes to an extent but in the context of the thread and its intentions i think not.

And second quesion "only for newbies"? Although its aimed for people that are relively new to the island the invitation is open to all ( as stated), in relation to your comment about meeting once and never again as we wont be newbies, not sure were your going with that but the aim is for people that dont know many people outside of work to make friends.

Please feel free to send me your email and ill add you to the distribution list if you would like to come.

Then maybe you should go get one! Looking at the responses on this board, it would appear that they are VERY easy to get!

In all honesty Ajit. The WNDC and FNDC are both well established but have new people all the time mate, no point in trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to that, also, I have seen a "Newbies Outting" mentioned a few times recently, maybe get involved with that too!

I would come, but I have a very busy work family and social calendar and Saturday is a bad day for me :)

Good luck mate, I was only trying to be facetious, glad you took it in good spirits!

Hey nutnut..

Dont worry all taken in good spirit, not easily offended especially over a forum.

Agree with u on the WNDC (which i cant make), and FNDC, but i actually seem to have few people interested which is great. Not in anyway trying to compete with the other nights but cudnt work out why there wasnt a saturday night drinking club.

Anyways seem to have enough of a crowd going to do something this saturday, maybe we can start a SNDC :)

Let me know if you wana come?

AJ

No harm in trying, Saturday's tend to be "time with the wife" nights for me though ;) so will give that a skip :)

SMS, Ajit has a good point, SNDC could be a go-er what do you think?

Doubt it will wash. Like yourself, I tend to reserve Saturday's & Sunday's for the family. I think it's been tried over the years a couple of times but came up wanting every time, petering out after one or two tries.

But, if he wants to try, so be it. Somebody tries one of these things about every two weeks or so - with varying degrees of failure. Usually get several replies and so forth but when the actual time comes, lots of no-shows, or other problems when it's a open call. :?

Hi,

I arrive over 10 th August and I was wondering what happens on a Sat night then?! Add me to your distribution list mate. I think SNDC will be a winner. I'm a teacher and usually too knackered on a Friday but Saturday I'm raring to go! Also, if lots of family time is Saturday it could stand for Single as well as Saturday haha

I used to part of a group (of singles) that went almost regularly on Saturdays. Then things fizzled out--people got even fatigue, found love or just simply moved out of the country.

We had a good 2-3 year run. I think I feel a video montage coming on.....

hey everyone just to keep everyone in the loop we are organising get together this saturday 26th and below is the email that i have sent out to everyone that contacted me, if there is anyone else still interested please feel free to contact me.

***************
Hey Guys

Just thought I would email everyone that contacted me on Singapore expats for a get together/ drinks. I had a fair few replies but about 4 people have already said they can’t make it this Saturday but maybe able to make next week, but I wanted to go ahead and organise something for this week (not everyone is on this email list as some people gave me there numbers and PMed me and I will contact them separately).

I don’t really know many places but thought I would give you 2 options, either we can meet just off beach road (around Arab street), as there is a few bars/ pubs that I have been to and take it from there, or 2nd option is we meet at Clarke Key, I don’t know any other places so if anyone has any better suggestions please feel free to shout out. I was thinking to meet at 8, and will send out the actual venue when people reply back with were they prefer.

Can you reply back if you will or won’t be attending so a keep a count of how many people would likely to attend

Nick - thought I would include you on the email, I know you said you may not be out this weekend but if you change your mind.

Anyone needs to speak to me they can contact me on 81689419

AJ
