Visa Extension after EP termination

Post by plamsal » Fri, 18 May 2012 3:21 pm

Hi,
I resigned from my previous job but my new EP was not accepted so I am on 30 days Short term visit pass. My wife is studying in student pass and she will complete her studies in next 3 weeks. I am therefore planning to go to Johor Bahru and come back again for one month extension. So, that me and my wife can return back to our home country together.

Are there any rules that will not allow me for visa extension? Do I have to stay for 1 day in JB and come back the next day? Or, can I go in the morning and come back in the evening?

Please help me.

Regards.

Not sure about the situation with your EP but you can extend your visitors pass online - just google sg online visa extention.

Might save you a trip across the causeway.

I already went to ICA firstwith a request to extend my Short Term Visit Pass and second time with a local sponsor. The lady at ICA told me that I need to exit the country and come again. I think this is a generic rules for all EP Pass cancellation who wants to extend the visa.

I was also surprised that a foreign student cannot sponsor his/her spouse for visit pass. This rule is BS.

Anyway, I am giving a try. Let's see.

Only a PR/SC can sponsor a visitor for a visit pass. Even an EP pass holder cant sponsor a visitor for a visit pass.

Yes, I went to ICA with a PR who was willing to sponsor me. But, the lady told me that she cannot extend my Short Term Visit Pass because I was given 1 month Pass after my EP terminates.

Thanks.

That is absolutely correct. You get a 30 day SVP upon cancellation of your EP/S pass and it is not extendable. You MUST leave Singapore for a minimum of 3 days (preferably 5) But I think if you are from an Asian you have to return to your home of origin before returning to Singapore (although that is probably subjective).

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I am back to Singapore with 30 days extension. I spent 1 night in Johor Bahru and returned back after around 24 hours. The immigration officer was kind enough to extend my visa for 30 days.

Thanks again.

Really, if ICa has such a loophole a lot of 'students' will want to sponsor their spouses, and off hand I can count a rough number of 1000 :)

ICA is right in that aspect .. I wouldn't call it BS ..
