Dude, you should have said so. Still, an internet commenter is pointed out in the article that he's in favor of clearing illegal foreigners so you can see the source of ambiguity.ecureilx wrote:Moi is referring to the 'sentiments' of the natives .. expressed in the same article ..zzm9980 wrote:Not even related. "A quokka is what would happen if there was an anime about kangaroos."
I think temasektimes is not a good representation of what many Singaporeans really think - it is full of vitriol and unreliable reporting. There are other opposition sites that offer more balanced views.
What I believe to be the two root causes for public uproar:
Evidence of huge income gap: Ferrari driver out having a night of fun vs the taxi driver pulling night shifts to put bread on the table. Somehow it plays into the image that the govt has turned SG into a 'playground for the rich'.
Recent spate of 'PRC' incidents: E.g PRC bus driver running over innocents, PRC dude hijacking a taxi and killing people. This adds fuel to the xenophobic sentiment perpetuated by hate sites like temasektimes.
Btw I think it has been a longstanding policy in the press to report nationalities of accident victims and criminals. If anything the press would rather play down the nationality aspect.
