Post by vvb87 » Mon, 14 May 2012 9:38 pm

Hi my name is victor van bronckhorst, 24 years old and come from the netherlands.

this is my story:
On april 2011 i have my spass and work as retail manager.
When during work i was consider tp search for a anothrr company ao i found on and i resogn my job amd cancel the spass.

On 8may the company apply for me and gpt rejected reason valid on spass.
Actual they have space for spass holder. The company os also in retail so i am very sad on this moment.

My qualification still the same and i give all the spcument correct in englzish and everything.

What can i do?

Thank you so much

Hi Victor,

I think it's going to be difficult for the folks on here to give you much help. I would imagine that retail management is an area where the government is trying to encourage employers to hire Singaporeans instead of foreigners. I'm sure you're aware that the political climate here has changed in the last year or so, making it a lot harder for employers to secure S-passes and EPs in many cases.

In hindsight it looks like you resigned too quickly from your last job (thus cancelling your existing S-pass), although I do realise the timing can be tricky in situations like that. But in any case, we can't turn the clock back now, so I think the only thing you can do is ask your new (prospective) employer to appeal to the MOM. BUT, to stand any chance of success they will need to provide new information and demonstrate that you have a unique (or rare) skillset and experience that cannot be found in the local population.

I have to admit that I could hear "I will say zis only once" (from Allo Allo - wrong nationality, I know) in my head when I read that line. But I thought it best to go easy on Victor, given that it was his first post here (and his Englzish is much better than my Nzederlandse) :)

thanks for the advice, sorry for my grammatic english, i type on my mobile and i am not good in that. sorry about that, its a HTc Mobile dont expect to much about that.

my internet kabel is down thats why it took a lot of effort to type on a small thiny mobile.

But to be on Topic:

So the best is wait for my appeal and hope that the Ministry of Manpower will approve it.
Is it real Singaporean want to work in a retail industry i ask 20 local they say its to long hours to work in Retail industry.
THe last company i work in that time was not based what the goverment ask for it like my pay was lower as what the police of mom ask for it.
so on that case i want to get a pr but if i show my pay of course they declined.
I had no choice to resign and look for a another company that will provide the regulation of mom demands on it.

I know about the situation what the goverment wants to do. to be fair in 3 years i will see some changes in service industry. beside everybody know that service industry work long hours.

But I want to thank you for the information and advice

Quistion: Can i apply other company while its on appeal?

You can only have one application for a visa at a time. And since employers apply for the pass, it sure will make MOM wonder why would two companies have separate applications for the same person.

As long as there is an application pending, you cannot apply for another until the previous application has been withdrawn. Why? Because MOM says so.

Yes, occasionally, if new, relevant data is submitted with the appeal. But if it is appealed with the same information and the "Not fair, I think I deserve a renewal" you can furgeddit. However, recently it is getting harder and harder.

Change of status, e.g. bigger salary.

the salary is just as what mom ask for it, its not fair right that mom point on salary what allready is ok with the policy of mom.

my diploma is Retail managment. so i am very suprised as well.

only the company can write a good letter to mom to make mom a change right?

Wrong. MOM doesn't have to change anything. Additionally, even if you qualify academically and salary, it still doesn't mean you are "entitled" to an EP/S pass. It only means you can be considered for it. Nothing is guaranteed.
