On Visit - Offered Short Term Contract - INSIGHT???

Post by tonyjo » Mon, 14 May 2012 4:45 pm

All, I'm here with my current employer on short term business meetings and was offered a very lucrative contract by another company out here. I am resigning from my current employer and leaving Singapore next week.

I don't have a EP or PEP, and the new employer wants me to contract direct to them. Would I need to rapidly turn around a PEP before I begin working? Here's the facts...
  • Leaving my current US based country on 5/25
Offered a direct contract with a company here starting the first or second week of June
Contract is for about 8 weeks
Rate would be all inclusive...and believe me it's more than worth it($$$$)
In the US, I could simply 1099 the employer and it's a wrap. What's the simple path here in SG?? From my readings, it's a visit to MOM and a PEP application. Let me know if I missed something.

I'm concerned that with the wait on the PEP I might not be able to start on the desired date - or I'd be "working" while the PEP is being processed.

Thanks.

Tony

All other employment passes are applied by the employer. The PEP is not a requirement (hence P for "personal"). Ask the company who's poaching you if they can wait while they potentially apply for your pass.

I don't think you've given yourself enough time to get a PEP. The application takes about 2 weeks. Otherwise they're (the new co) going to need to apply for an EP for you. This should be okay as long as you still have your current EP (apparently MOM approve "transfers" much quicker than new applications).

If you are an independent contractor, and don't have an employment contract with the company, they cannot apply for an EP for you. If you are hired by them, that is, you get the benefits like other full time employees, then they can apply for an EP.
