triathlon or marathon training

Post by trifreak » Tue, 07 Dec 2004 12:06 pm

Hi I am in the process of negotiating a contract for a job in SG. I currently live in South Florida (Miami) and just started getting involve with triathlon and marathon training. Does anyone know if SG has an area for people to conduct long distance run and bike :?:
Thanks for any input.

Cheers,

hmm, probably possible for someone from florida, me being a Finn - it's really humid to do long distance stuff.

Whatsoever, check this: http://jsp.triathlonsingapore.org/index.jsp

It depends on what level of training you require right now.

For marathon:
- Trail : Bukit Timah, Pulau Ubin
- SD (Short Distance) - LD : East Coast Park - Changi, the return is about 40km
- SD in the CBD: along the river is very nice

For Bike:
- SD: Again ECP-Changi, Mandai Rd
- LD: Desaru and Mersing in Malaysia, a short ferry ride away

For Swim:
- Pool: plenty of 50m public pools, cost only $1
- Sea; not the cleanest, but does the trick

Keep in mind that it gets really hot here in the afternoon. The only time to do outdoor sports is 5-10AM and 6PM-as late as you want it to be.

I am also "training" with a bunch of friends, some more serious, some less. If you're interested to join, let me know.

The trail around MacRitchie is another good place. 10-11 km for one circuit, and since it's a loop you can do as many rounds as you like.

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is a popular race, held on the first Sunday of December. Usually there's a bunch of running groups that start up a few months before StanChart.

One of the shops -- Running Lab, I think -- organizes groups too.
