Hi all,
Would sincerely need some advice here. My gf of Thai nationality is now on a holiday visit to me. Today is her 23rd day. I went to online to e-extend her short term visit pass for another 30 days, but was rejected.
Ok I know that I would never know the reason for the rejection. Correct me if I am wrong, I have 2 choices :-
i. Go down to ICA level 4 for appeal in person
ii. Go to JB for a day shopping trip and come back
If option 1, how do I tell the receptionist issuing the queue no.? Most likely I would just get an answer like "since it is rejected, she should go back to Thailand" isn't it? How do I get pass the receptionist and talk to an officer?
If option 2, what are the chances for her to be denied entry to Singapore. We would go for a <24 hr trip if go for this option. If she is denied entry to Singapore, what will happen? Will she be detained at the checkpt or?
Really appreciate some advice here please. This is quite urgent as she only have 7 days left on her visit pass.
Some additional info: this is her 3rd or 4th time in sg, and most of her previous trips extension were approved. For me, I am a working adult working with stable income. I am 27 and she is 30.
THanks all.

Had the same situation recently. Rejected online, so went to JB Outlets for about 3 hours. No trouble at all coming back in.
But, I did make sure the person had a carry-on of clothing and such with them in case I needed to take them to an airport in Malaysia. Ymmv.

Maybe take this as a warning from ICA that she has now come onto their radar?

Thanks for the response. I just would like to know which option you guys would think its a better one?
To zzm: thanks. May I know you go with your gf to JB by a pte car or by public bus? The reason I am asking is because it seems that the checkpt for pte car is much lax compare to the public. And what do you mean by ensuring that she carries full bag of clothing?

Agree, I think you've used all all your free throws on this one and she been flagged by ICA. I definitely wouldn't recommend doing the JB run as she could be given only a 24 hours visa on her return, if at all!

Hi Saint,
why is she being flagged by ICA? If she is being flagged because on the suspicion of doing monkey business, then won't it be unfair to her? Can I speak to the officer and question their basis of rejecting or should I be humble and beg for an extension?

There are Thais who enter Singapore with tourist visas but work as unlicensed prostitutes.
Immigration doesn't care if it's unfair.

It wasn't for my girlfriend, it was for my wife's cousin. Vietnamese, not Thai. We went by private car at Tuas. Malaysians gave us a harder time than ICA.

The previous guidance from MS (who is quite wise in these matters) is that on SVPs one should be out of the country for about 6 months every 3 months they are in it. They also default to assuming young single Thai females are working girls. It might not be fair to assume she's a prostitute, but it is rather fair to assume that if young single thai (or any SE-Asian) is in Singapore on an SVP, they're not contributing anything by being here.

Thanks for all the inputs so far.Any more advices?
Most probably I will be going down to ICA tomorrow to appeal in person. If all fails, maybe will consider the JB option but would like to know if the checkpts at woodlands is link to ICA? As in will the check points in woodlands know that ICA rejected my gf's extension?

All checkpoints are connected via computer network to ICA, Wooklands, Tuas, Clifford Pier (or what ever took over from there), Changi, Tanah Merah Ferry terminal. Doesn't matter where she tries to come into the country, the computer will flag the passport.

Thanks Sundaymorningstaple. In view of my situation, do you think it is better to go down to ICA in person for an appeal or do a JB run? Really appreciate some urgent advice please!

I think I'd go to ICA but be prepared to have her "requested" not to return for a couple of months.

Are you a local ?
If you are one . go to ICA and bring along your IC and use your name as sponsor to guarrantee her "good behaviour" for another 30 days.
Write a letter, if you mus,t stating reason for her extension request. Bring along your payslip to support your claim that you can support during this stay
If you are not a local, then get one.
Should not be major if go by this protocol

Short term leases of 5-6 months
Replies: 3
First post
How easy is it to find a 1-2 bedroom for short term of 5-6 months? I know most owners prefer 2 years?
Last post
Yes usually owners will request higher rent for short terms ie: 3 months - 12 months..
Many owners are also not so keen even for 1-year.
