You can set up a GIRO (standing instruction) to pay out your taxes monthly, which, now that I'm finally doing it, it much better than the alternative.

Than? Remember your GIRO only pays the LAST years tax - so at any point in time you owe around 12 months of tax (remainder of prev period payment + current period accrual)

Yeah, people tend to forget that it's not PAYE like in the US that actually has a method of withholding taxes from you paycheck. Which is funny in a way as they DO use PAYE for CPF contributions.

Than - me having to pay it all in one shot at the end of the year when I usually have a number of other expenses. Plus it's more sensible (for me) this way to have taxes as a monthly rather than a yearly expense.
