Last-minute Tokyo Advice: Food and Photography

Post by zzm9980 » Sun, 06 May 2012 9:27 pm

Hi,

I find myself going to Tokyo tomorrow, and just found out I'm going two days ago. I'll be alone, and working most of the time, but will hopefully have a free afternoon or two and some evenings.

Since I didn't have much time to prepare and research, hoping to tap some of your minds for tips on two topics:

1) Good photography vantage points near my hotel/office. I'm staying in Shinjuku, Park Hyatt Tokyo. Office is in Tokyo Opera City. I understand my hotel is an excellent spot because it's very tall and will give a nice view of the skyline and maybe MtFuji, but any other place I can take nice photos at in the evening would be great.

2) Good Ramen and Sushi nearby that is gaijin friendly enough that I can navigate with no Japanese. I'm fine pointing at pictures. Last time I went to Tokyo was 9yrs ago, and we were relegated to McDonalds, Starbucks and the turkish guy selling Kebabs in roppongi due to no Japanese.. I don't want that to happen again :)

Thanks!

Just on the top of my head is TMG and even the surrounding areas of Shinjuku Eki. Of course, there's also Shibuya and Harajuku. Most eating places in these areas should be able to accommodate gaijins (because of the amount of them in the area)--re: menus with pictures! Just walk into an inviting little cafe, especially those with realistic food replicas on display.

Yeah, that's about what I figured from my memories of last time. Wandering about Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya. Should be plenty of things to keep me busy between those three spots.

Also saw this, and the first 2 are in Shinjuku and Harajuku:
