Rain, Water and The You Know Who.

Post by Quarks » Sat, 05 May 2012 9:50 am

Why is it that in Chinese superstition (I mean deep, long culture) water is said to be seen and thought of as prosperous, yet when it starts to rain, well not even rain, when the condensation from air-con units drip a few minute particles of water vapor into the air, Singaporeans run screaming for their lives and it always looks as stupid and laughable as the first time I saw it.....they put one of their little dick-skinner's (hand) above their heads to ward off these little drops pf prosperity falling from the heavens. Why?

Quarks, an interesting first posts. On any other board you would likely have a flame war on your hands (unless you've already tried and that's why you are here now).

Your language could use some refinement (you're not in the barracks here) but other than that, you raise a good point. I was a commercial diver for two decades, water doesn't bother me and looking at the locals does bring about a chuckle considering most still have wet hair from just waking up, jumping in the shower and off to work. They don't eat breakfast at home - preferring to buy at the kopitiam and eating it at their desks on the company's time. - except in my office. [-X

Thanks Zzm. Sorry if my first post offended anyone. However, I think my post would be considered tame on the racist, xenophobic comments section of a very popular Singapore news website (how's that censors?). Those pig-ignorant yokels are always good for a laugh. They won't make babies but want all foreigners out, they won't do any job where air-con and an elevator aren't the two main tools-of the-trade, but they want all foreigners out. Are these people kidding me?? These are just some observations I'm making. :)

Now you're scaring me :P

It's just that he looks like a wry observer of things and I hope he sticks around, so I thought I'd give him a tip before the Admins potentially pass by and summarily put the zap on his ar$e

i think singaporeans have this thing about "dirt" - including water from an unknown source (eg, NOT from a fresh ice mountain bottle, tap, etc)

many singaporean parents i see always say something along the lines of "don't do that! it's dirty!" i don't get this "dirt" thing... dirt is good (like, proven science)!

i rolled in dirt when i was a kid!!! my clothes (when i wore them) consisted primarily of dirt!!!

but kids in singapore are kept in this voice-contained bubble (DON'T TOUCH THAT! DON'T SIT THERE! DON'T JUMP IN THAT! DON'T POKE THAT!)

(it's DIRTY!) oh man, and then there's this car washing obsession... i won't start.

but... hey, who's to know that "water" wasn't just hawked up from an chain smoking "uncle's" throat from the 9th floor flat?

Definitely a heck of a lot of perspiration, that's all I gotta say! If it's that bad just going to work, it's no wonder the Fertility Rate is as low as it is!!!!! :o
