Product Control in Investment Banks

Does anyone know what are the prospects of product controller? What are the skills and quality sets that are transferable? I was offered a position in one of the IB, but I am afraid that this might spell the end of my career path if I cannot move on to other jobs that are relevant to the context of product control. One logical next step can be that a product controller goes on to become a trader of that product.

An alternative is that as you have such a deep knowledge of the trade process (from execution, through settlement, to booking, funding, accounting, risk etc) that are ideally positioned to become a project manager on trading system upgrades and installations.

Another route is going on to being a/the Financial Controller.

I've seen all these steps being made, particularly the first two, from product control. It is far from a dead end job.
