Finding Serviced Apartment Upon Arrival / Before?

Post by budfox » Sun, 08 Apr 2012 11:03 am

I've been reading through the forums here on Service Apartments -- very helpful.

Has anyone found a Serviced Apartment on arrival in Singapore? I'm a little hesitant to lock in a rate for up to three month for an apartment that I've never seen.

I'm considering the possibility of first staying in a hotel and then looking for temporary housing upon arrival. Am I at risk for not finding any availabilities in June? I'm coming with a dog, which will be out of quarantine 3 weeks after I arrive. So my options are somewhat limited because of the dog.

I'd imagine that most people that move here and initially stay in a Serviced Apartment get it sorted out before showing up; we certainly did. At a minimum I'd suggest you do some online research and make a shortlist before you move here. If I were in your position I'd email the places that look interesting and check whether they expect to have availability and whether they will allow you to stay there with a dog.

This site has a property search function; for example, there are Serviced Apartments in this place (we stayed there when we first came to Singapore):

http://www.singaporeexpats.com/singapor ... idence.htm

However, AFAIK, the search function here doesn't specifically allow you to seek out serviced apartments. But one other source of valuable information for expats here is the web page that sundaymorningstaple (SMS to his friends ) maintains; there's a link to it in his signature. In that page I noticed the following site that provides a search function for serviced apartments:

http://www.moveandstay.com/singapore/

Good luck with your search, and could I suggest that you post an update here when you have more information about which places will accept dogs, as that would likely be of interest to other people in a similar position in the future.

[Note to the mods - I don't believe the above company is directly in competition with the owners of this site, but if it's not appropriate to post the link directly then I'll understand if you need to remove it.]

Should be okay as Admin has vetted my page before. - Moderator ;-)

I havent used Service Apartments much, only two or three times, but I always booked in advanced. I always thought of them as more long term hotels. Just go online, look at the pictures, and read reviews.

We booked in advance, too. We did month to month, because we didn't know when we would find a permanent home. The one we rented allowed pets (Orchard Scotts).

Thanks for the replies!

I think we'll end up taking the route of booking in advance.

This is certainly not a comprehensive list, but so far we've been looking at the following pet-friendly places:
- Leonie View
- Great World
- Lanson Place
- Orchard Park Suites (+fee)
- Fraser Residence Orchard (+fee)
- The Sail (+indemnity)

Just found out about:
- Orchard Scott (certainly looks nice from the renderings...)

I would go with advanced as well since they tend to be booked out as soon as you arrive! With a pet (cat) we're going with Lanson place, if you contact them beforehand they have super special on right now (till the end of June I believe) and we're going with them just based on the reviews and pet factor (no additional fees) and the pics looked ok. Nothing fancy but for the special they have now it's worth it imo. The only other place we stayed at was somerset liang court which was awesome, but they don't take pets.

traveling with 2 adults, 1 todder, 1 cat.
