Hey everyone,
I'm currently residing in Maryland US. I'm accepting a job offer at Singapore and thinking of buying a whole new set of sofa, children's bed, dining table and such for two assumptions:
1. I like to have a very good quality sofa like Hancock and Moore type. It makes sense to spend US$3000 rather than buying something of similar quality but with much higher price tag.
2. A good captain's bed and King size mattress. Again, items of similar quality are much more expensive in Singapore.
If the above assumptions are not entirely true, I will have to weight the option that I'll spend US$4K to ship them in a container. Of course, I'll at least need US$2K to ship other things lift-van anyway.
It'll be great to have someone to tell me whether these assumptions are correct, and whether it makes sense to ship them anyway.
Thank you very much!

Depending on where you are living, you might find it difficult to get a US king sized bed into the average new condo's bedrooms. Local king size is 6 " shorter. This also means local linens won't fit, US linens will but they will cost you.
If you are getting all shipping paid for, you are okay, otherwise, I'd throw all assumptions out the window. Anyway, I didn't think scientists worked on assumptions anyway?

I'd sell your bed in the US and buy a new one in Singapore. Probably the cheaper thing to do.
Bed are cheap over here, Like SMS said watch out for sizes, our super king size mattress struggled get into one condo, and in our current place the sofa we bought in the US along with a coffee table had to be carried up 12 flights of stairs it could not fit in the service lift.
