Hey guys, just got back here after a busy weekend!

Well, well, well, how dramatic things have been in this thread over the weekend...

Don't mean to burst it for dear HP13, I was actually being cheeky to point out that OP is not even a genuine poster, given that s/he claimed to be from China but, like what SMS also agreed, flogging an Indonesian dating site. Heck, maybe the IP will show something (but that's not for me to know).

And as far as racism is concerned, I actually share the same ethnicity with OP (if his/her China claim was true to even begin with), but you wouldn't know, so I wouldn't give you as much as hoot as you already did; so it is okay.

Oh, that bar advice? That was tongue-in-cheek. Like I said, OP is not even genuine, so that was just me being humorous. And just so happened I confused between KTV lounges and bars, and that got others entertained at my expense as well, eh? :P

So take a pill and chill, it is Monday already... :)

Chill lah nutnut, it is over :P

OP, as expected, will never come back to verify his/her post so there's no point ruffling further (and that's one of those annoying advertisers that we often see trying to flog in this forum).

And HP13 already apologised (for that one-liner), so let's just let it go.

Having said that, I won't change my avatar. I (still) love it!

Objectively?

Can you explain why you mention this? I ask as I have noticed one or two people claiming this before. Is this community meant to be concerned that you find aspects of it personally offensive? I'm genuinely interested.
@Jr8, you have to agree that there have been genaralisations made and comments passed on the OPs nationality. You can check out my post on AIP and the subsequent replies of sms. I'm sure when you started this forum it was to help newbies. Ofcourse your frustrations about just posting before searching first are genuine, but they are nit an excuse to be rude. Some of the comments are downright obnoxious. Read and judge on your own.

Yes there are generalisations made, and they tend to acutely observed and accurate. I'm not going to go back and try and divine what aggrieved you, as it is of no consequence to me (why should it be?). I'm still waiting for a 'stereotypical sub-continental' to explain to the forum why they are fond of announcing on their first posts that they 'find some comments here borderline racist and personally offensive'.

Do you fancy having a go at explaining it?

p.s. Edit to add: As has been pointed out, clearly I did not start this forum...

In fact, JR8 didn't even start this thread.

When you come here for the first time you expect people to behave normally. By normally I mean decently, helpful etc. You have to understand that people come to this forum, register and post only because they have certain doubts and expect the experienced members to help them out. What they find instead are comments which are either prejudiced or rude or both. To give you a gist, SMS said being the Indian that I am, I probably was expecting google to be my personal lift operator and give me answers; or some similar bullshit. Understand this is my first conversation on this forum. I have come with an expectation of people helping out each other. But what I actually experience is a barrage of comments which basically say that you are an idiot, and I think you are an idiot because you are from xx country and also because you have a masters. Tell me this, how much effort does it go into just ignoring the post and moving on as against taking the effort of clicking quote, thinking of the wittiest of comments and typing them?
Why the "'stereotypical sub-continental" announce that they find some comments to be racist is because they are not used to the workings of this forum. Once you peruse all the threads in the forum the insults and racism becomes banal and you start ignoring them. However, initially it comes as a shock. I mean, you obviously do not see much in these insults as they have become banal for you. Hope that answers your question. You may agree or you may not. At the end of the day what is judgement if not an opinion coloured by your ego?

Normal people are not helpful in Singapore, simple, if you expect new people to be helpful and conscious of your needs/preferences and you aren't paying them... Think again. It's the same in much of the world, if in Singapore you don't like it you know where the door is.

Likewise, if you don't like this board, maybe you should try the angry board?

well he asked a question and I answered it. We can all provide justifications, but it doesn't matter. Your post is again a justification. Not useful if you ask me.

I have looked at your posts and am not sure what AIP is, however all I see if you receiving a great deal of help. I do not see anyone doing anything else to you.... so can't see what your problem is. Care to explain why you are upset?

When you come here for the first time you expect people to behave normally.

Well that is your mistake isn't it? This is an internet forum and it is wrong of you to have expectations of it. It is what it is, and you can take it or leave it.

By normally I mean decently, helpful etc.

Which is the way you have been treated isn't it?

You have to understand that people come to this forum, register and post only because they have certain doubts and expect the experienced members to help them out.

The forum is like an up to date encyclopedia of information, all here free for the taking. But newbies should bear in mind that people here are not paid to help others, and so those unwilling to do at least some ground-work on their situation, i.e. by using the search function, cannot 'expect' personal 1-1 help.

What they find instead are comments which are either prejudiced or rude or both. To give you a gist, SMS said being the Indian that I am, I probably was expecting google to be my personal lift operator and give me answers; or some similar bullshit.

Like I said all I saw were people helping you, so have no idea what you're talking about.

It shouldn't be necessary to have to explain the dynamics of an internet forum should it? Or to have to ... what is it you want ... apologise for the forum being how it is. It won't happen. The culture of the forum is the sum of the personalities involved in day to day debate, and they're not holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to stay and 'be offended'.

Understand this is my first conversation on this forum. I have come with an expectation of people helping out each other.

That's the third time you have used the word expect...

Where are these comments saying this about you?

Why the "'stereotypical sub-continental" announce that they find some comments to be racist is because they are not used to the workings of this forum.

And whose problem is that?

Once you peruse all the threads in the forum the insults and racism becomes banal and you start ignoring them. However, initially it comes as a shock.

Really, well wait until you land in Singapore. That's going to come as a REAL shock to you I think!

I mean, you obviously do not see much in these insults as they have become banal for you. Hope that answers your question. You may agree or you may not. At the end of the day what is judgement if not an opinion coloured by your ego?

Anyway well done for distracting me from helping other people, and having to tend to your personal sensitivities instead. Maybe your ego needs to come off your sleeve and take a back-seat for a while eh?

What would be useful, is instead of coming on the board full of angst and vitriol at what you perceive, don't you think you would catch more fish with your hat in your hand and be a little humble like most newbies do. This is why the majority of "sub-continental" types end up at the wrong end of the stick. You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, unless you are trying to catch ksl.

Stereotype? Yeah, you could say that. But it's a stereotype that a large number of newbies from that region exhibit on a regular basis. It's kind of like the stereotype of Singaporeans being Kiasu. Google it if you haven't heard of it yet. Not all are like that. In fact it's a minority of the population here but the percentage of them compared to other countries is greater so all here get tarred with the same brush. The same goes for the stereotyping here. And each new one that comes here the same way, just reinforces the stereotype. Heck, some of our longest posters here are Indians. Revhappy, Singaporeflyer, to name a few, but they never exhibited that kind of stereotypical behaviour. Others have and quickly figured out it wasn't in their best interest and have stuck around as well. They are useful contributors as well now, not just getting what they want and moving on.

It's just like the stereotype for PRC girls in Singapore. Why? Because a high percentage of them are here for only that reason. What to do. Human nature. So, you can continue to rant & rave or you can calm down and learn you can't have it you way all the time. Or you can move on. Your choice. You are welcome to stay. In fact we'd like you to stay, but if you do it will be on this boards terms and not yours.

If you don't find it helpful, you are perfectly entitled to ignore it.

Anyway, toughen up snow flake, it's the real world!
