Marine Cove - is there anything left?

Post by BigSis » Sun, 25 Mar 2012 2:14 pm

I know that McDs and Scruffys and all those places have closed - what about Burger King etc in the next block along?

Is there anywhere to buy a coffee or a beer down there now?

The Burger King and those buildings were still open last night. I just have to add that that is quite possibly the *worst* Burger King or even F&B place in Singapore, if not the world. I have never had more trouble with simple orders as I have there. It's ridiculous how stupid everyone that works there is, except for the one supervisor who has the biggest attitude problem. (Understandable though, since she is constantly running around fixing everyone else's freak-ups)

That's a shame, it used to be OK that Burger King (well, Ok for a Burger king that is!) - one of the few that managed to serve hot chips ..........I haven't been in there for a few years though.

I guess I'll have to head towards Harry's and the Seafood Centre from now on - I used to quite like going for a drink in Scruffy's or Coffee Bean - our only beachside coffee place must be Starbucks at Big Splash now.

The Entire Marine Cove area with the McD, Korean BBQ, Subway...etc. is closed down. The BK/Long Beach and everything east of it is still operational. As for the Burger King, I've seen worst. At least the food at the east coast BK is always warm/hot and the place is never over crowded.

It better be warm and fresh. The service is so slow they have enough time to kill the cow.

There is some little cafe/eatery that is really far east; even past the East Coast Lagoon hawker center. Not sure if it's good for coffee, or convenient, but it is quite a nice place to sit, very close to the beach without all of the chaos and drab feeling of Marina Cove. Maybe a 10-15 minute bicycle ride from there.

I think you're referring to the place by the Bougainvillea Garden, not far up from the Skate Park. It's OK, I've been there for lunch before but we got there when it opened at midday and they could only offer us fried food. It looks like a nice place to sit and have a beer in the evening though.

Harry's I couldn't go there again if you paid me. The food isn't much better than when it was 350 (or whatever). Someone recommended we go there for breakfast one morning - there's nowhere to sit outside in the shade so we had to sit inside. I wouldn't mind but they had obviously fogged that morning and there where huge roaches everywhere, either dead or half dead on their backs. Not great to look at while you are eating the crappy food they served up. We had to keep pointing out more roaches to clean up and they weren't that prompt to clear them away, or even fussed that they were there in the first place. My husband was so put off his food by this point, he was wondering if there are this many in the restaurant, how many would there be in the kitchen and food prep areas.

Although it would be OK to just go there and have a beer and watch the world go by.

The one by the Bouganvillia Garden is called Sunset Cafe or Sunset Restaurant. It's OK, not great. The chef doesn't arrive until around 5.30pm so you can only get snacks before then. I didn't think the food was that fantastic to be honest. It's a nice setting though and fairly quiet up there.

There's a new Italian place opened up at the Seafood Centre which might be worth a look - the prices seem pretty reasonable for that kind of place. I think they've got some sort of clause going where any restaurant that opens there has to pretend to be a seafood restaurant because they've got a big sign saying "Italian Chili Crab" ..........I'd never heard of Italian chili crab before :D

There's also Mana Mana but they were pretty rubbish the few times we've been there so we stopped going.
