Carseats - Best price and requirements?

Post by zzm9980 » Sun, 11 Mar 2012 4:25 pm

Hi,

Two quick things:

1) What are the requirements for a car-seat in Singapore? I know it's allowed to hold your kid in a taxi. What about a private car? I've heard directly contradicting things on this from locals, and haven't had a ton of luck searching. Although I will get a car seat either way... Just want to know. (Anyone from the US remember those "Click! I'll be your safetybelt!" commercials? :D )

2) What's the best place to get a good price on a car seat I'd actually trust to put my kid in? Kaki Bukit area? The wife and I found an acceptable looking one for $199 at the store in PP across from Mothercare, and one that was almost identical was ~$320 at Mothercare. Is that a decent price, 50% less than Mothercare, or could we expect even less at KB?

If you have a child below the age of 8 years in your car, it is mandatory that you have a child seat OR a booster seat depending on the size of the child. This also goes for people who don't have children of their own but may have to carry a child under the age of 8 as well. This went into effect on 1 Jan 2012.

This one I can't help you with as the car I'm using already has a child seat in it so my 4 y.o. grandneice is already sorted.

I got my Maxi Cosi Priori from the Baby's Hyperstore at Kaki Bukit. Mothercare only stock the current years range which is why they are more expensive. Baby Hyperstore usually stock the current and previous years range and usually the only difference is the colour scheme.

I got my infant maxi cosi bucket seat at Baby Hyperstore for about 50% of what it cost at Mothercare. I can't comment on the convertible/bigger kid seats as I'm not in the market for one here (no car, we take the MRT mostly now), but they did seem to have a full range of them on display. I'd say it's definitely worth a trip out there.

Thanks, I'll definitely take a ride out then. I looked that Priori model up on Amazon, and that is definitely the one my wife liked but thought was over priced. She'll be happy to know we can get it cheap :)

Well, wound up spending a lot more than I planned because it was "such a deal". That always happens when I go to places like this. At least it's really high end and nice :)

Oh well, hopefully my daughter will have the same consideration one day when she needs to drive me around and change my diapers :D

Bahaha we did the same with our second stroller there. Instead of spending 50% of what I would at Mothercare, I spent 110% and got a much nicer model. Did you see they have a gold plated Maclaren stroller in the showroom with a price tag that reads $18,888? LMFAO one day... maybe when we're on our way to Dubai :-P
