F1 on TV?! Pub/bar to go and watch with fellow fans?

Post by Raven1577 » Wed, 07 Mar 2012 10:06 pm

Are there any places which will be showing the F1 races?

Been here a couple of weeks and have known for a while about the mess between SingTel and StarHub over the F1 coverage. Just couldn't bring myself to sign up for the rotten SingTel service.

Guidance please?

It looks like they are no free Singtel F1 roadshow screenings at the moment, so you will have to go to a sports bar such as Harry's bar or Muddy Murphy's.

I rang up Harry's bar and they said that they are showing the Australian Grand Prix at Chjimes and Boat Quay. I will probably go to Harry's@Chjimes.

The race starts at 2pm Singapore time. I really hope the old Schumacher turns up this year. Enjoy.

Well he topped the time sheets in FP2 today, so you never know...

Another place(s) that usually have the F1 on the telly is Brewerkz.
Be careful what you wish for

Got threatened by Harry's Bar

Post by zero cool » Sun, 13 May 2012 10:59 pm

Please can someone let me know if they know how much money is required to be able to watch a race at Harry's bar without being harassed by the staff.

I used to watch the Grand Prix at Harry's bar last year and used to buy some food for around $13-$18. I went to Harry's@Chijmes to watch the Spanish Grand Prix today and bought some fish & chips for $16. Before the half way point in the race they started to harass me to buy more food and drinks. They said that they needed the table even though the place was half empty and I thought that I was using it.

I was already full from eating their fish & chips and did not appreciate being threatened so left. I looks like they want me to spend at least $16 an hour to prevent them from harassing me. There is a lack of respect at Harry's bar, so I am going to go elsewhere in future.

I head to the tower, and cheap beer, and no harassment .. well, no sound though ... only video .. but .. well, Harry's is Harry's

Actually, if you are going to hog the seat for 20 $, then it is a gone conclusion .. bars don't make money if customers don't drink or buy something ..

Oh, remind me again .. you don't drink much do you ? And how do you stretch a plate of Fish and Chips for so long ?? :)

Actually, it no different than inconsiderate students hogging the table at McD's to do their homework and such with a single coke for 4 hours. I say, charge a hourly stool/chair/table rate if your purchases don't cover the perching rate (perched on the bar stool watching the game/race, whatever. It's only fair and to think otherwise? They don't need nor want your business because you take their business away. :-|

Since Harry's Bar do not want my business, I will ensure that I take their business away. They do not advertise how much money is required in order to avoid persecution, but buying a meal is not enough anymore. I have no need of a second meal or a second drink if I am already full. Other places can be more expensive, but they can actually work out cheaper if things overrun.

I don't remember SMS working for Harry's but .. you are missing the point mate !!!

if you buy a beer mug every half an hour, I am sure they don't chase you .. but if you monopolise a prime spot for 3 hours with a fish and chips .. do I need say more ?

zero cool is aptly nicked. Bet he's got a masters....

Common sense should see one spending at least as much for his seat as he would if there were no sought after event on the screen. As squirrel noted, for the average person, that probably works out to around a mug an hour minimum.

Oh, I doubt seriously the one or two you "might" convince to not go there will end up there when not with you, more than likely. Not everybody has zero cool. #-o

A race usually lasts for under 2 hours and does not last for 3 hours. I never had any problems eating food and drink and watching a race at Harry's Bar before.

There is no information on any hidden rates and it is also unacceptable to threaten and harass people. I will let those who condone this kind of behaviour go to Harry's Bar and will go elsewhere in future.

Again, my lord, you are missing the point .. including the pre-race stuff, and then checkered flag and all - make it 3 hours .. in any case, Harrys or otherwise, any bar / restaurant makes money when patrons buy food and drinks - not when they nurse ONE HOLY FISH AND CHIPS for 2 hours plus plus plus .. ;)

it still doesn't occur to you that they run a business selling food and drink, not giving free parking space for punters who want to watch tv ..

Hi,

I'm moving to Singapore on 25th July, and the first thing I did when I new I was moving was buy a ticket to the Singapore Grand Prix! I love F1, and it would be great to watch the remaining races with other fans and a pint or 2 somewhere.

If you guys have a regular meet and don't mind me tagging along, give me a shout.

Cheers,

Rob.

hey guys!

the stretch of bars along boat quay shows F1. they're surprisingly still open on weekends. but it's definitely safer if you check them out during the weekdays to confirm whether they're showing it. you can just grab a beer and just sit for the full race.

The bad side of these is that now that the race has gone Europe, it's at 8pm SG, so the bars/eateries are usually quite crowded and noisy. Can't really hear much of the commentary. (But local commentary is shit anyway) I've been to Brotzeit and they're a very nice place to be at, if you're German, or supporting a German driver. :)

Yes I'm female and I watch F1. WOOH :D
