Germany or Greece, which is a better place to holiday.

Post by rachelroz91 » Tue, 06 Mar 2012 4:21 pm

I have been planning to take a vacation. Came across some interesting places and offers

Le Royal Meridien - Hamburg Germany for approx USD320 for 4d3n sometime beginning of April
Mykonos Greece approx USD250 for 4d3n sometime mid May.

Which place would be a better option? Has anyone been there? Pls share your views.

Good chance you money will go a lot further in Greece considering it's impending collapse in the EU.

Honestly what can you do in 4days?

Greece unless you can avoid the riot

I would suggest neither as it is too short a time to sightseeing.
It takes min. 12 hours to Frankfurt and the same to Athens

Greece is the obvious option for financial reasons, although, Hanburg is also fine.

However, they are two fairly different countries, what are you after in your holiday, and bear in mind what MS says, 12 hours flight + a time difference of -7 hours for both places makes a 4d3n stay pretty much 1 or 2 days... and you'll probably be knackered during the time! better going to Vietnam, Cambodia or Hong Kong etc.

That's like saying, I have deals on offer for South Korea at x$ and Cambodia at $y which is better? Does it not come down to which you would prefer to visit?

I wouldn't choose to visit Hamburg in April, an industrial city, and the weather would be pretty frigid, maybe even a risk of late snow. Greece (to me!) would be a far better option for RnR. But both of your options would require connecting flights, likely 18hr+ or so journeys each way and jetlag. If all you have is 4D/3N I'd forget about it.

South Korea is very nice :)

I guess you should go to Greece if you love the sun. There are plenty of beach paradise there. I heard it's a popular place for newly-wed couples.

Usually, tourists visit Germany for its famous Oktoberfest, car factories slash museums of BMW/Mercedes-Benz, and of course, Bavarian castles. :)

The OP said 'sometime beginning of April'.

So you can forget about visiting the beaches in Greece, it'll be cold still!

Actually, the OP wrote, "sometime mid May" :)

Nonetheless, in Greece, the hot and dry season is between April and September.

Have you been there?

Check this out. :)

Oops my mistake, April was Hamburg.

Yes I've been a few times. And I was looking to go again this early April! Just the holiday season charter flights haven't started up, so the prices and connections to get there are all rather silly!
