The courage to leave
Even to this day I get flash-back dreams... 'Woah man!!!, I started this course 8 months ago, haven't been to a single lecture, and the exam is in a months time, WTF am I gonna do man!!!!!?'
In reality I wasn't that bad, though I don't think I attended anything that happened before about noon.
(Unsurprisingly me and Uni parted ways not so long after - not that I regret that for a moment. In retrospect there was no point me being at uni apart from the - as per the Ian Dury song title - 'sex, drugs and rock 'n roll')

Going to Uni doesn't quite have the same connotations as it does for us angmohs!
Funny thing, I wondered many times why a few years of exposure had no apparent impact on the mindsets of so many intelligent and educated people around. It would be a big irony if this was the reason and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was (following same learning style, lack of intercultural integration, sticking to "own kind" only).

I know a few Asians in the UofC(hinese) system back at home who have no trouble doing everything nut describes and still acing their curriculum. Mostly from Taiwan though, so it's not like it matters. Most of their parents are rich already anyway.

I have those same dreams, except I'm walking around the school in underwear
Jeez, that's pretty weird!

Or naked.
Well it is common, according to the man who gave birth to psychoanalysis.

Singaporean in overseas adaptive-ness? You have got to be joking !!
Are you saying those tens-of-thousands of locals who left Singapore are having a tough time in their new homeland?
or its just another way of saying the grass always look greener from outside..?

After working and living in many parts of the world over 45 years, coming across Sgers newbies in foreign land/s, I think I am not that far off.
The first topic that comes up is complain and compare to SG Infrastructre and system.
The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.Yahoo !!!

OIC, New comers...maybe you should give those folks a little more time to adapt...after-all migration is unlike metamorphosis..takes time.
Yes, I heard the same complains from no nearby grocery stores, why malls closed early, why no library, why no hawker-center, why local delicacies don't consist of cha-kuay-diao, chee-cheong fun or Hainanese chicken rice...
Still majority aren't returning even with all garment's open-arms...well good for them and their families...after the initial pains.
Like I mentioned, grass sometimes look greener from seen from a far until one settles in and realises it holds its own share of mud, dirt patch, creeters, thorned-undergrowth, jagged-edge grass, poisonous shrubs..etc etc
But why complaint? Ultimately, it's one's own decision and depends on one's perceptions and attitude on how to adapt.
FG's simplified child-like outlook towards "Life is like a box of chocolates..." pretty much sums it up...
Now....isn't that FUN?
