how long will it take to get a polytechnic job offer

Post by letustalk » Sat, 03 Mar 2012 7:16 am

hi, I am applying for a position in a polytechnic. Two weeks after the second interview, I checked with the HR. They told me that I am shortlisted but the MOE approval is pending. As long as the procedure is finished, they will inform me. Now more than four weeks have passed since my interview and there if no information.

Does it take so much time for polytechnic to prepare the documents to recuit a new staff? Anyone has similar experience?

How long is a piece of string? That's how long it will take.

There are lots of departments that come into play. The school, the MOE, the MOM. Vetting of your own credentials, all play a part and all have different time parameters. You can only wait as nothing is carved in stone here with the exception of one's NS liability if a PR or Singaporean.

I know a couple, who joined Temaesk Polytech and a couple in Ngee Ann.

All of them took 4 to six weeks, from the time they got through the second interview, before they got the offer letter, and another 4 weeks or so, before they were given a starting date, starting date coinciding with the start of the semester. I had to baby sit them, so i know :)

The only exception was a friend who joined Ngee Ann, who did her homework - got her uni to send in the verification letter directly, once she was notified of the short listing

She did ask the HR before doing that ...

But the strange thing is that I did not recieve the shortlist email. I have to check with the HR to know whether I am shortlisted. Is that normal?

In your opening post, you said you are shortlisted, right ?

Normally, people like Polytechs and such don't tell you that you are shortlisted, unless you are really shortlisted

I'd say yes of course, life moves on and you can't expect to be left sitting around hearing nothing for six weeks!
