Farrer Road/AYE commute?

Post by curiousgeorge » Sat, 25 Feb 2012 3:08 pm

I am looking at moving, up near Sixth Avenue on Eng Neo Aveune. I work down near Vivocity...

I am bless to have wheels (is it a blessing in Singapore?!) so can drive to/from work, but I am wondering how bad Farrer Road and AYE is in the morning in that direction?

I am currently commuiting from River Valley in about 15-20mins, I guess from Eng Neo will be 30-40? Or am I looking at really bad traffic and 60mins+?

Any idea anyone?
Just wondering how disconnected I would be up there for Orchard/Nightlife too...its not exactly the boondocks, but guess it will add $$ to taxi fares...

Can't be too sure about exact route you'd need to take from Eng Neo Ave to Harbourfront area but AYE, just like any other expressway, is dead jammed heading up to city.

However I can be sure that you won't be too far from Orchard. Because you can take Sixth Ave down to Holland Road and shoot all the way up and voila, you'll be at one end of Orchard Road, passing by Tanglin and Dempsey on your way. Not too far, and certainly easy route.

Yeah, best bet is probably 6th Av. to Holland then maybe North Buona Vista and South Buona Vista to the W.C Highway and to Vivo from there, missing out the AYE and Alexandra altogether.

Depending on the time you start work...... maybe a half hour.

Taxi to Orchard at night, ~$15..... you benefit more because normally most people are coming out the other way - I'm not living too far from Eng Neo.

But it is really random..... it took me a half hour only from Jln Jurong Kechil to the start of Dunearn Rd a couple of times just because of an accident. If there is one on any highway, all the arterial roads are stuffed.

Would agree.

I travel the opposite direction and am glad I don't face the south-bound Farrer Rd traffic in the morning.

As for AYE east-bound, it varies - sometimes good, sometimes jammed.
You can always check the onemotoring website for more-or-less current still photos of traffic.
You could also check GoogleMaps with the colour-coded traffic overlay for delays.

Radio traffic reports are not as useful - but I do find those on 93.3 or 97.2 to be more detailed (i.e. they cover non-expressway traffic more consistently).
