bupa insurance and antenatal care

Post by rafbird » Sat, 25 Feb 2012 2:33 pm

Hi we are planning to conceive at the end of this year and after looking at the prices of the whole process I'm looking into a complete medical package to cover me. Bupa sounds good. Does anyone have experience of the whole antenatal and birth and post care covered by bupa package or other insurance?

Thanks

The FIRST THING you need to check with ANY insurance is what the waiting period is. Completely useless having maternity cover that kicks in 3 months AFTER the kid is born (most policies have a 12 month waiting period).

+1

Since I got pregnant just about as soon as I arrived here in SG we didn't bother with getting an insurance plan that would cover my pregnancy for just this reason. Our insurance agent said that a plan with no waiting period would be just as expensive or more than paying out of pocket. In the end, all told we ended up paying about $7k for an uncomplicated vaginal birth, A1+ suite and top-tier doctor at NUH.

and also check out the limits. Most of the plans only cover up to $10k which doesn't help where there are complications (and you wonder why Singaporean birth rate is so suspect!)

Hi,
I have taken Bupa inpatient insurance, waiting is 10 months.
It will cover all hospitalization including delivery expense (only inpatient).

My waiting time is 10 months so if any one is likely to be trying to conceive or just pregnant around nov/Christmas time let me know and we can be baby mommy buddies with all going to plan that is!
