Clarification about my offer

Post by arunrobert87 » Mon, 20 Feb 2012 10:46 pm

Hi I have got an offer from a well- known company in Singapore. The company says they will provide me permanent residence status and family status. What does this permanent residence status mean?? Does it mean that they will provide accommodation, housing allowance??

Normally a company would apply for an Employment Pass (EP) from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) after they've offered you a job. And there is no certainty that it will be granted, especially in the current climate. Permanent Residence (PR) is something that the individual themselves has to apply for, at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA); the employer cannot (to my knowledge) 'provide' you with PR. Unless there is some special scheme for certain companies here, but I've not heard of that.

I'd suggest you use the search function (above and to the right) and look for posts involving the above terms - you will find that EPs and PRs are discussed at length so there is a lot of information available.
Be careful what you wish for

They probably mean they will give you a housing allowance or provide you with furnishings and that they will sponsor your family for dependent passes. At least that makes the most sense.

I think likely what SMS says althoug family status sounds bit weird.... there is one place you can find out for sure. Ask the employer what the details are for that statement.... Surely the HR department will be able to break down what their process is.

If you learn something new do share!
