Working for yourself on a DP

Post by chachacha » Sat, 18 Feb 2012 8:41 pm

Has anyone on a dependent's pass managed to obtain approval from the MOM to work for themselves in some capacity?

I am not looking at setting up a Company and the latest information on MOM website is that foreigners cannot set up as sole proprietors. I called the MOM and they said the same thing. They said I had to get a resident to set up a Company and for me to be employed by them. I don't want to do this as I am only interested in making and selling crafts.

I'd like responses from anyone who has been successful.

Best advice I can give you as a starting point is to read the first 'sticky' post in this section:

http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic75000.html

This is a method used by a number of people over the years. Interesting that there is now some doubt about that, from what you've observed. I think it was never a foregone conclusion, but clearly some people have been successful relatively recently.

Perhaps you could post a link to the information on the MOM site and then some of the wise sages on here could comment further.
Be careful what you wish for
