how do I get invited to some of these events?

Post by flying_carpet » Mon, 06 Feb 2012 5:06 pm

Hi all, I am very new to Singapore and was just wondering how do people get invited to "exclusive"/"high profile" social events, e.g. the F1 party, Singapore Tatler events, or launch events by luxury brands? I am not saying that I will qualify (I probably won't) but I am sure that some of you guys in this forum would qualify and has been invited in the past. Look forward to your replies - thanks!

Erm... if you're a famous socialite/celebrity or a richie rich?

Usually, people who get those high-profile invitations are the ones whose presence will benefit the events. Think publicity/donation/networks etc...

I know one person (only one person) who is an Indonesian socialite, living in Singapore, and in her office, she has a stack of such invites :)

Oh, again, she doesn't go around asking, she is "INVITED" and she did tell me that such invites can be free, but you fork out thousands for charity x or y at the program ..

And she also said that at every event, a lot of 'wannabes' turn up and then realise it is too expensive ..

Oh, and I learnt a fashion statement from her .. if you want to be invited, you gotta be 'noted' either in terms of your trade, business, or skills, or at the least, dress well enough that like people will notice ..

to the OP: do you read the Tattler ?? for a start ?

Or... hook up with the volunteer organization(s) that are almost always associated with such events... you get to know people.

I'd prefer to drink beer with the locals at that big HDB estate in Chinatown instead of being allocated a seat next to Paris Hilton. But that's just me...

If you're a chick then I could understand it if you happened to dig such events. But as a guy this would sound strange...

Ditto to that.

And I hate to put myself under pressure to dress up and hold up constantly - on and off the events. That's so much of the trouble and it is too fake. This kind of events requires one to play pretend...

well, after sleeping over it .. I felt maybe SMS is a tad bit intimidated that I do know stuff, though I get them wrong .. and no sir, I didn't drop names like I know RK, or OBS and the like, oh, no, I never met them too .. and neither have I rubbed shoulders with MPs or ministers here ..

So, fret not, I am not gonna steal anybody's thunder, and it bothers a wee bit that you find that I don't fit your stereotype of what I should be and you been sending smoke signals and my intelligence is not that high to figure it out ..

Back to the OP:

Well, I mentioned your 'need to get invited' and I was told that there is another way to get noticed.

Go to the Cartier Shop, and buy stuff not less than 50k S$, and they 'may' ask your details to invite you .. and then do the same for other expensive brands too .. ....

After a while, you will get noticed, and maybe get invited to 'events' and 'launches'
