S Pass renewal because of a new passport

Post by bobypf » Mon, 06 Feb 2012 9:39 am

Ok guys, I guess sooner or later everyone comes back to this section of the forum with a question, even if he works here already.

So, my question is: When I got my In Principle Approval Letter in the late December last year, my S Pass was granted for a period of 24 month, which is the standard case I guess. In the beginning of January, when I had the actual S Pass issued, it was given to me for 6 months only because my passport was about to expire in July this year. Now I know that they give all EPs for a period of 1 month before the passport expiration date.

The thing that worries me is that from MOM told me that the company has to file a completely new application for me before my current S Pass expires, which will be AGAIN SUBJECT OF APPROVAL.

I recently had my passport renewed and now my old one is not valid any more.

Please, tell me do you have any experience with situations like this. Can I expect some shit from MOM like a negative outcome for the new application which should be in only 3-4 months time? It would be a shame if they say no, while I will have been working here for a few months only. My company's HR said I should not be worried because even though their official statement is that the new application will be treated as a completely new application, in such cases they treat it as an extension.

So, what can I expect?

They already found you worth giving a 24-month EP, even though in the end for formalistic reasons only 6 months were given.
If nothing in your status changed (e.g. lower pay, etc.), I don't see why you should worry, no matter if it's an extension or new application.
